Do you regularly hire live event announcers, (or Voice of God's) for your award ceremonies and other corporate events?

To help make your net event smooth and successful, I’m sharing my top 10 tips to help you get the very best out of your chosen voice...

1.             Be clear from the outset

Let us know the scope of the role and your expectations early on. Are we simply announcing guests and winners, or guiding the entire show flow? Will we be expected to read the shortlist of nominees or will tat only be visual? Clarity upfront gives us time to research names, learn pronunciations and prepare correctly.

2.             Send the script early, even if it’s just a draft!

Please, please don’t wait for the final version! Even a rough draft helps us prepare, practise, and flag anything that might trip us up later (names, timings, or tricky phrasing).

3.             Tell us about the audience

Who are we talking to? What kind of tone, pace, and energy do they expect? Whether it’s black-tie elegance or high-octane hype, context helps us match the vibe.

4.             Rehearsal time is gold

Getting us in early means we can test the mic levels, check our cues, and ensure everything feels slick and calm before showtime. Nobody wants a panicked tech run-through!

5.             Be available for pronunciation queries

There’s always one name or company that needs checking. Being available to confirm these before the day makes all the difference, and keeps the live show fluff-free!

6.             Format the script clearly

We love an easy-to-navigate running order. Make sure the Voice of God sections are clearly marked, with cues and stage directions easy to spot. We’ll probably reformat for our own workflow, but clarity helps everyone.

7.             Keep citations tight and to time

As tempting as it is to include every judge’s comment, short, sharp citations land better. We only need a few sentences to make the nominees shine. Let your editor trim where needed.

8.             Share show cues and comms early

Knowing how the comms system works (and who’s cueing us!) avoids confusion mid-show. Whether we’re on cans or hand signals, we’ll adapt, just let us know in advance.

9.             Make sure our space has what we need

It sounds small, but a comfy chair for those long gaps in the running order, water, and a clear line of sight to the stage (or a monitor feed) make a world of difference. It helps us stay sharp for hours.

10.          Trust us to help if things change

Live events rarely go 100% to plan, but a seasoned Voice of God can adapt in the moment. Trust us to help smooth over any wobbles and keep the energy consistent. That’s part of what we do best.

A great Voice of God helps your event feel effortless, but it’s always a team effort behind the scenes.
